Fun Facts About Saint Patrick!

Meet the REAL Saint Patrick of Ireland! Feast Day: March 17

Hi, Chime Travelers!

Hiding from pirates with Saint Patrick was such an exciting adventure! Who would have thought that our Patron Saints lived such exciting lives?  I went on an adventure of my own to learn more about Saint Patrick, and I want to share five of my favorite facts that I discovered with you!

    1. When Saint Patrick was a slave, he had to work all day in the fields as a shepherd. A shepherd takes care of sheep. It might sound fun to hang out with a bunch of sheep all day, but it’s hard work. He had to feed them, shear their wool, and protect them from danger.

    2. I was surprised to learn that Saint Patrick was not born in Ireland! The pirates took him there after he was captured. In a dream, God told him to return to Ireland to spread Christianity. Patrick’s family was sad and begged him not to go, but Saint Patrick had faith in God and returned, which is why he’s so famous there today.

    3. Some people believe that Saint Patrick used a shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity to the Irish people. One leaf stands for God the Father, one for God the Son, and one for God the Holy Spirit. We don’t know if this is true, but it’s such is a fun way to celebrate the Holy Trinity when we look at the plant!

    4. Saint Patrick grew up in a wealthy family. He had two sisters who were also taken by the pirates and became Saints: St. Darerca and St. Lupita! Although it sounds crazy, Patrick was grateful that he was kidnapped because it taught him to be thankful for what he had, like his family and his faith in God.

    5. Saint Patrick’s Day is one of the most celebrated holidays in Ireland, but it is also celebrated all over the world! People celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day in countries like the United States, Canada, Australia, Russia, Singapore, and even Japan!

It was so much fun learning more about Saint Patrick and his incredible life! I can’t wait to see who we get to visit next. I wonder if the journey will be as action-packed as this one. I’m going to see if I can find a clover and teach my friends about the Holy Trinity!

I also made a fun activity for you to do to celebrate Saint Patrick on his feast day, March 17th, or any time of the year when you want to bake a tasty, authentic Irish Soda Bread recipe!  CLICK HERE TO GET STARTED!

Until next Chime!
