Celebrating St. Mary and all Mothers during the Month of May!

Hi, Chime Travelers!

Can you believe it’s finally May? I’ve been looking forward to this month all year!

Can you guess why?

Warm weather? That’s a great try! Blooming flowers? I love those, too!  But my very favorite reason to love May is because it is the month we celebrate the Blessed Virgin Mary!

Mary has been my favorite saint since I was very young. I love her story and her strength. She shows us how to live with compassion, humility, and a strong faith in God. I like it so much when we get to visit her with Katie and Patrick!

Mary is not only the Mother of Jesus, she is also the Mother of the Church, and that means she is a loving mother to all of us, too!

Read the bible passage John 19:26-27 where Jesus tells John at the cross, "Behold, your mother!" John represents all believers. By giving Mary to John, Jesus symbolically gives her as a spiritual mother to the entire Church.

All around the world, people celebrate Mary in special ways during the month of May. Some traditions include:

  • May Crowning (placing a crown of flowers on a statue of Mary)

  • Celebrating Mother's Day

  • Planting Mary gardens

  • Celebrating special feast days

One way I like to celebrate Mary is by thinking about my own mother. Mary cared for Jesus with love and sacrifice, and my mom does the same for me! She helps guide me, teaches me about Jesus, and shows me love every day.

So this May, let’s celebrate both Mary and our moms with a fun and beautiful craft, a flower crown! This is a beautiful way to honor Mary and say “thank you” to our moms, grandmothers, and mother figures for all they do.  Click the link below to open the instructions:
